Ties Matching Navy Suits

When looking for ties matching navy suits, we need to consider tie color, tie pattern, the type of occasion that you are dressing up for, and what different types of tie designs convey!

Tie Colors

If you are looking for a clean, seamless look, without taking too much risk, we suggest a monochromatic look. Examples include navy blue ties with light blue shirts, or burgundy ties with light pink shirts. Essentially, you are looking to wear a tie that is a darker shade than the color of the shirt that you are wearing.

For the greatest levels of contrast, try using a triadic color scheme. This involves using colors that form a triangle on a color wheel. Examples include a burgundy tie with a light blue shirt and navy suit. Conversely, one could wear a navy tie and light pink shirt with a navy suit. 

If you are really looking to go ultra bold, you can opt for a complementary color scheme, balancing cool and hot colors to a greater degree. Examples would include an orange or a burnt orange tie against a light blue shirt – however, we would proceed with caution!

Tie Patterns

When looking for a tie pattern to match with your navy suits, the spacing within the pattern design is more important than the pattern itself. Therefore, if pairing a tie with a finely striped or microcheckered shirt, we suggest going a larger spaced tie design. Examples would include a larger spaced geometric foulard patterned, polka dot or paisley tie

Occasion

If dressing for a more formal setting, we suggest opting for a navy or burgundy tie, given that they demonstrate trust and authority. For something more cordial, an olive green or lilac tie could work extremely well. 

With casual settings, you can even opt for slimmer or alternative ties such as cotton, wool or silk knit ties, which are the perfect way to slightly dress down more formal attire. 

Different Types Of Tie Patterns

Solid, striped & tie foulard patterns generally work best within a more formal capacity. However, darker variants of more casual polka dot or paisley ties can also pair exceptionally well with a navy suit. 

Generally speaking, patterns such as polka dots, floral and paisley patterns are more casual in nature and are thus best worn to a wedding reception or an evening out with friends. However, as mentioned above, darker variations such as navy or burgundy tie in these patterns can pair exquisitely with a navy suit in more formal settings.
